ANNOUNCEMENT TEXT

ACTIVITY 1

Read the following announcement carefully and identify its elements.

Elements of the Announcement	Found/Not Found	Details
Opening	Found	A greetings for people of George Town written in caps. (not title, but still close enough)
Contents	Found, but not clear enough for anyone to know the information	A bigger-and-better wedding suits and dresses collection shop is going to be opened on April 2013. (but still no exact places and time)
Closing	Found	Invitation to come and shop at J.Crew store and web, also a contact person for job offer.

Elements of the Announcement	Found/Not Found	Details
Opening	Found	A title that clearly states "CALL FOR PROPOSAL" , and background stories plus fact that support the purpose of the proposal needed
Contents	Found	The areas for research that are needed for the proposal.
Closing	Found	An information on where to look for detailed info about the proposal asked. (attached on WHO Indonesia's website)

TEXT 3

 

Elements of the Announcement	Found/Not Found	Details
Opening	Found	An expression on how proud they are to let people know that they have outgrew their old places. (and it comes in two-line sentences, not a title)
Contents	Found	Places of their new store and an information on what they did with the old building.
Closing	Found	Two ways to contact the company stated on the notice. (by phone and website)

Elements of the Announcement	Found/Not Found	Details
Opening	Not Found	(no title, no openings... I'm not sure this is a real announcement)
Contents	Found, but not clear	"We" are going to open branches in some countries. (no specified date, no exact place, and no information about who on earth is "WE")
Closing	Found	Writer's hope for the company. (and no cp, which makes it harder for people to reach them)

 

 P.S. I don't think this is an announcement since it is not clear in so many aspects.

ACTIVITY 2

Read the examples below. Decide which of the following examples are considered announcement. State TRUE for announcement and FALSE for texts that is not an announcement.

ACTIVITY 3

Re-read the texts in Activity 1. Identify the main idea or topic of the announcement and write down the details of each text in the table below!

In writing the details, pay close attention to:

-          Who wrote the announcement?

-          When was the announcement released?

-          Who is the announcement for?

-          Details of place, date and time

Text	Main Idea	Details
Text 1	Informing the people of Georgetown about the opening of a Suit Shop in a new venue.	-          The announcement came from J.Crew Store -          The opening will be in April, 2013 -          The shop will offer more of men’s and women’s, weddings and parties collection.
Text 2	To inform readers (especially researchers) that WHO requests for proposal regarding H5N1.	The proposal will be evaluated as references for studying H5N1 virus.  There are two options of areas for research that needs to be included in the proposal, and there are awards to give for the best researchers. (More information can be found on WHO Indonesia's website)
Text 3	To inform readers (especially Neosys's customer) about their new-outgrown place.	Neosys has opened a new computer store at Melati Street, and the old building is no longer a computer store. It has changed its function to be a Service Center with the exact same place and phone number.
Text 4	To inform readers that a random company called "WE" (no idea who is "WE") are going to open store branches.	It will start to open its branches on 1st January, and it will be done in some big cities in Indonesia. (Medan, Lombok, Makassar, Denpasar)
