"I believe that..."

Hi, everyone! How are y'all doing? I hope you're all good because I feel super!

So, this morning I had an English class (just like usual), and today's material happened to be my all time favourite activities since I learned it several years ago. It's debate! Plus, I got to make my own motion and do it in front of the whole class! *yeay!*

But, sadly, Mr. Resta (in case you've never heard of him, yes, he's new) asked us to do a  resume while the others did their debate party in front of the class. The resume needs to be sent to our own blog as Ms. Wiwin will checked it before our next meeting. Thus, doing this blog is mandatory and I hope you don't mind with all my 'trivial' thoughts on every motion given. Enjoy!

Topic : Freedom for women in Saudi Arabia, especially at midnight.

For starters, the government side stated that society's belief of "high crime rate" that affects and scares women is actually the main reason why there are crimes in the first place. They believe that every human being need to have the right to do whatever they pleased, regardless of their gender, colour, and etc. That's why they believe that women need to be allowed to do and go wherever they want, even if it's midnight. As alternatives, the government suggest women to actually learn how to defend themselves, maybe learning martial arts as one of the examples. Government also brought up the idea of "driving license for women" just so they can go to any places 'safer', especially at night.

On the other hand, the opposition team strongly disagree with the idea of women that leave their house at midnight. They brought up the extremely high crime rate as the main reason of their statement. There are way too much danger on the street, especially at midnight, that are just way to much for women to handle. Women equipped with martial arts can even be harassed by men since their body structure are different in the first place. Women may have done something to protect themselves, but, nobody knows what men can do with bodies like that.

Personal Opinion :
I personally believe that every person should have the same right to walk on the same street whenever they want to. I also believe that no one, and I mean no one, should ever be afraid when they walk on the street to wherever they live. I, myself support the idea of freedom for women at midnight, and I'm against all thoughts that stated women who get home after 11 o'clock are *pardon me* whores and cheap women. Going home late at night has nothing to do with women's dignities. And yes, I agree, for safety reasons, women should be allowed to have driving license since online transportation are not quite safe. Even though it's right to be said that 'nobody knows what men can do', I think men should also contribute in making safe and convenient environment for women.

Topic : The use of 'Solar Panel' for more schools in Indonesia.

After several researches have been read by the second party, the government side opened their argument by stating the importance of using solar panel. It was said that using solar panels as main power-source is good, not only for the economy of one's school, but also for the environment. Solar panels, as said by Irbah, could cut school's electricity bills up to 75%, which is great. It is also environment-friendly since it doesn't produce CO2 like gasoline stuffs. Solar panels could also be a new business opportunity. Imagine, solar panels are quite new innovation amongst Indonesians, and when solar panels touched companies, they will, with no doubt, mass product solar panels. Which is a good thing, of course. Just like the basic economic law, when something is mass-produced, there would be less trouble in supply and demand, and solar panel's price can be reduced.

The opposition disagrees with government's statement. They have tendencies to believe in what they see right now, Indonesia's status quo. Indonesia is not that kind of one-rich-country where everyone is wealthy and people have no problem in buying things. Due to this reason, it was stated that solar panel will not be an effective things to afford right now since solar panels themselves are 'high-technology', which are believed to be very pricey and expensive. Plus, due to Indonesia's lack of technological-education, we need to import that kind of stuffs and it will only be more expensive than those were before as Indonesia's currency is one of the lowest in the world.

Personal Opinion :
I'm just like everybody else: I lean more towards the government team. It's good to see from what's happening right now, what's real and how things are going in the society. But, when we are talking about such technologies, we need to see from the long run. Sure, it will be very expensive at first. But, we're not talking about one day. Two days. A week. One month. No, we're talking about years. Solar panels will slowly take over the unhealthy gasoline and oil as main power-sources. Moreover, we're talking about the use of solar panels in schools, which is even better since schools can use solar panels available as education objects. Students can learn about the tech and stuffs.

Topic : Tax-Free Asian Games' tickets.

Both Ms. Swift and Ms. Baker opened their argument with the importance of tax-free Asian Games tickets for both the athletes and the supporters. The government team stated that tax-free tickets are good since they would be affordable for everyone, especially for economically middle-to-low families. Thus, the joy and merry of Asian Games will no longer be available only for people with tons of money, but every poor people in our own country could enjoy it as well. When everyone are allowed to go and see Asian Games, the athletes are, of course, receiving more love and support. Alda believes in the concept that when people are supported and loved while doing something full-pressured, they tend to do their best and victory can be reached eventually. They also believe it would be good for Indonesia's images in the foreigners' eyes. Selling tax-free ticket would make them disappointed since the price is just too 'high' and 'ridiculous'.

While the pro busy stating the importance of tax-free ticket for the supporters and athletes, Ms. Zoory and Ms. Anna focused on the importance of tax itself. Taxes, as said before, are used for buildings and stuffs, like repairing infrastructure, upgrading things and etc. They were also holding onto the fact that foreigners will never have not-enough money to buy things in Indonesia since Indonesia has one of the lowest currency in the world. They can always afford tickets with a little bit of taxes and not be as disappointed as Indonesians. Moreover, the taxes earned from tickets can also be used to improve the quality of Indonesia's anything, and by that, foreigners will know Indonesia for more aspects apart from Asian Games only.

Personal Opinion :
I support the idea of tax-free tickets for big events such as Asian Games, especially when the event is held in our own beloved country. I mean, what's the point of holding such events in Indonesia when the people itself couldn't enjoy the show as well? Even if you need to add taxes for state's sake, make it still affordable for Indonesian people. We're poor indeed, so why don't you ask for taxes and stuffs from foreigners? They do have a lot of money, don't they? *wait what?*

That were all from today's meeting, but I decided to do one more since a lot of people tend to disagree with this motion, but if you pay attention to it, you'll know that this is actually an interesting one.

Last Week's Group (Dwika, Rian, Ibrahim Jacob, Farhan Joseph)
Topic : THW legalize LGBTQ+ in Indonesia.

*I forgot the government and opposition's statements, sorry*

Mr. Resta's : [disagreed strongly]
If one day, somehow society managed to decided to legalize the practice of LGBT in Indonesia, imagine your country about 15 to 20 years from now. Paedophilia would asked to be legalize as well since it is, without no doubt, a form of love regardless of their 'age'. Bestiality also would find it's way in the community since it IS love regardless of shape and stuffs. Would you actually live in a world like that?

Personal Opinion :
I'm leaning to the concept of 'love is love, regardless of genders'. People do not choose who they love. They just fall. I mean, ask yourself. Can you love (not in a platonic way, but in the most romantic way possible) someone with the same gender with you right away? No. That's just the same thing that happens with people with sexual-disorientation(?), whatever you named it. They fall for someone, and it happens to be same-sex person.

Most of the time, people disagree with LGBT since it doesn't fit with the norm and their religion. People mix both religion and state problems in one big bowl, which I kinda don't agree with. As a country with several religions, tribes, and cultures, Indonesians need to understand that being major's opinion does not always meant that you're right. I believe that people are hating on LGBT for no clear reasons than doesn't fit with the norm. No law even go against LGBT in general. I mean, as long as one being in love with another does no harm to both society and the couple themselves, why should they be banned?

And I'm so sorry, Mr. Resta. But I believe Dwika's group are talking about the practice of LGBT for adults, as in people who already have consent. I strongly against Paedophilia, just like you. But I believe that paedophilia has nothing to do with the LGBT community. I personally think that paedophilia is one kind of fetish towards minors, which is very wrong, even for the law. So no, I don't agree with paedophilia but I believe that has nothing to do with LGBT.

There. Those are all I can do for now, since I'm so sleepy right now and most of those are just ramblings. I'm so sorry but that's just who I am *wait what*. See you next posts!
